(Reporter Zheng Ruke, correspondent Yu Yi) Known as the highlight of Wuhan Gardening Expo, the Yangtze River Civilization Museum prepared a vivid selective course for college students--the Yangtze River Civilization. On the afternoon of the 26th, the activity “Millions of college  students see Wuhan ” came to the Gardening Expo, and more than 50 students from Wuhan Polytechnic University became the first group of audience of this “selective course”.

According to the relevant person in charge of Gardening Expo, they will launch a series of selective courses about Gardening Expo, make the Gardening Expo the “second classroom” for college students in Wuhan and invite artists to teach the lessons combining the characters of this park to let more college students gain valuable knowledge during their visiting of Gardening Expo.

To learn Wuhan from Gardening Expo

”Firstly, we will enter the natural hall. In the eight units of “Into Yangtze River”, we can see the beautiful natural ecology and cultural landscape along Yangtze River, among which, Wuhan is one of the bright pearls. ” With the commentary of the narrator, students began their “Yangtze River Civilization Class”.

From the source of Yangtze River to golden waterway, from snow leopard to wetland and Red Crowned crane...”It’s amazing, there are wild yak, Tibetan antelope, Asian elephant...” Seeing the museum’s collection of rare animals and plants specimens, Lv Yating, an architecture major student from Wuhan Polytechnic University can not help to look carefully and take photos with white-flag dolphin in front of the screen. “This is the treasure of the Yangtze River!”

Wang Junjie, a freshman from biological science major was deeply impressed by the Yangtze River Basin at the entrance of the museum. He said that from the basin, we can clearly see the important geographical location of Wuhan, and also understand why at that time Hankou was called “one of the four famous towns in the Republic of China”

”For Wuhan, the Yangtze River is not only a river, a source of water. “ After listening to the history and culture, Han Fengkai, a finance major, said that Yangtze River shaped the culture of Wuhan people and the humanistic spirit of “ dare to be the first, dare to pursue the excellence” . And he also thought that he knew too little about Wuhan, the very important city in Yangtze River Basin.

Students did not want to leave and sighed up as volunteers.

In the “Hall of Civilization Perception”, under the leading of narrators, students interacted with the Ardipithecus, Australopithecus, Yunxian people and modern people in the screen. “Let's try to hold each other's hand, come on, the left hand......” Under the cues of narrator, the ”primitive man” in the screen began to do the same action as the college students did.

”It’s a lot of fun!” Tu Mengdie, an advertising major student said, and the interactive equipment within the exhibition hall made students hooked. “I come from Hubei Province and I am so proud that students from other cities can experience our Yangtze River folk culture ”, She said . And she also thought that the sense of participation here was much stronger than in school.

In the area of Chinese porcelain and lacquer ware, students experienced the fired, color restoration and other porcelain production links through the games of homemade pottery and lacquer game in the touch screen. “Teacher, can we go back later? ”,  said Zhang Ziwei from business administration major who enjoyed this game with her girlfriends very much, and she begged to experience for more times, and wanted to leave until the museum closed.

”What can our college students do?”, after listening to the explanation of water conservancy projects in the Yangtze River Basin, Lin Mei from Chinese language and literature major, discussed with her roommates. She said that as college students in Wuhan, we should also do something to protect the water resources of the Yangtze River and save the endangered species and she decided to sign up for the next batch of the Gardening Expo volunteers.
