Located on the west side of Garden Expo, the western service zone is adjacent to the third ring road of Wuhan. The buildings here reflect the Hubei architectural style, with four courtyards and five kinds of garden landscape from west to east, leading visitors into the core scenic area of the Garden Expo. Shadow play, commonly known as "leather shadow", is loved by Hubei people and is played on New Year's Day and other festivals. The shadow play in Mianyang, Hubei is listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage and has a history of over 300 years.

A specially designed shadow play stage is located in the middle of a pool at the entrance of western service zone, where 360 ° panoramic shadow play is performed. The stage is paved with clay bricks featuring Hubei elements and presenting a strong reminiscence atmosphere with plants. (Picture 2)
The design aims not only to be a supporting facility of the Garden Expo, but also a permanent characteristic stage. It calls people to appreciate and inspect the neglected beauty of nature and shadow play.

Moving forward, visitors enter the courtyard of "Yuanyingyuan" (garden shadow garden), which fully displays the beauty of garden with elements of plants, water, stones. (Picture 3, Picture 4)
Waling eastward, visitors enter the courtyard of "Zhuyingyuan" (bamboo shadow garden), which features bamboo plants.

Moving ahead, another courtyard named "Shuiyingyuan" (water shadow garden) with mirror surface pool unfolds before visitors. The courtyard is themed with the shadow of water, consisting of a north-south pool and three architecture clusters surrounding the pool. (Picture 5)
The last courtyard is easternmost with the name of "Huayingyuan" (flower shadow garden).
